Process your Trauma

My best friend in one of the schools I had attended while my dad was being transferred up and down reached out to me yesterday and said something to me that broke me totally and strengthened my resolve to  assist more people change their stories and become more intentional in creating the life of their dreams.

He said to me ‘I never told you that I also did not recover from your departure from the school because I couldn’t get close to anyone else when you left’.  He went on to tell me 2 other people that were badly affected by leaving that school.

As I thought through what he shared with me my mind raced across several clients I have worked with over the years whose childhood trauma that was not processed became responsible for the pain they experienced in adulthood which they eventually inflicted on others.

Unknown to many parents their trauma is also passed to a child whose interpretation of reality can be totally messed up for life. You know for a long time I hated the words ‘The spirit of God told me’. You know why?

That was what my dad was told when he was moved to a remote town far away from my friends when it was obvious that his new boss felt threatened by his popularity in that space. So, every time that phrase was used, I saw it as a tool for manipulation.  I did not process it until I went through therapy and discovered that I should never generalize a whole by a few. I processed my trauma and decided to change the meaning.
