Bursting the Religious Makeover Marriage

Someone once asked me: "Praise how can God speak to you about your choice of spouse and you still go through a troubled marriage?" I smiled and responded: "Have you not read that you have to work out your salvation with fear and trembling?" But someone is wondering why people play the religious makeover formation?

• Religious over -commitment: When every day of the week is spent on one religious activities or the other without time for family bonding crisis is around the corner. I am not against people attending church or even mosque activities, but where there is one religious activity from Sunday to Sunday that keeps couples engaged without enough time for themselves they become addicted to that religious organization and far apart from each other.

Couples should have time to dance together, see movies together, gymn and take a walk together and even hang out with friends. If family time out is absent then trouble is imminent.

• Ill preparation: Religious people hardly read books and attend meetings that can cultivate their relationships outside their religious gatherings.

• Assumption: Religious people naturally expect God to make their marriage work without understanding their individual roles at making it work.

At the core of every successful marriage is quality friendship and effective communication. These two don’t come naturally as they require time and work and that is why you must be responsible for working things out. God will not do it for you. • Build friendship by creating time to be alone together

• Learn effective communication

• Get a vision and purpose for your home

• Sit down to talk and chart a new course on your individual expectations and how to strike a balance.
